Rev. Dr. Mark Zier is appointed to Aldersgate UMC

Mark Zier, Minister

Mark grew up along Lake Erie in northern Ohio, where he was active in his local United Methodist Church. He received his B.A. from Ohio Wesleyan University, his theological training at Union Theological Seminary in New York City, and his doctoral degree in Medieval Studies from the University of Toronto. Ordained in 1976 into the East Ohio Annual Conference of the UMC, he has served United Methodist parishes in Rocky River, Ohio, Richmond, California and St. Mark's, Orinda, California. While in Canada, he served parishes of the United Church of Canada in both Toronto and Hamilton, Ontario, and also served as Dean of Men and Director of Student Affairs at University College in the University of Toronto. During the 1990s, he served as University Chaplain at the University of the Pacific. Over the years, he has taught at several universities both in Canada and the U.S. For a time he taught Bible study at Glide Memorial Church in San Francisco. Mark continues to pursue his research in the history of the interpretation of the Bible from the fourth to the fourteenth centuries.
